An inspiring true story of Dr. Stephen
Shao. Born in the small town of Zarkow, Dr. Shao spent his childhood
in war-torn China, often dodging bombs and gunfire just to reach school.
Shao's father instilled in his children the importance of an education,
and after receiving his undergraduate degree, Shao immigrated to the
United States at the age of twenty-four and went on to be the first
Chinese American to earn a doctorate in Business Administration,
graduating from the University of Texas in Austin.
Dr. Shao then began his distinguished
teaching career and eventually obtained the highest rank of Eminent
Professor at Old Dominion University in Virginia.
Throughout his life, Dr. Shao has used
hard work, a commitment to education, and perseverance to obtain his
American dream. In 2002, Dr. Shao was honored by the city of Yixing,
China, for his contribution to educational excellence and family values
when a library building a the local university was constructed and named
in his honor.
